Review:
Your standard Wong Jing rip-off special that both amuses and annoys. For Wong Jing material, this is better than his recent efforts, but it’s still a far cry from his best work. Plus, if you’ve seen God of Cookery, Lady Iron Chef loses extra points.<loveHKfilm>
Wong Jing raids Hong Kong Cinema again for The Lady Iron Chef, a cooking-themed wackfest that manages to amuse when it’s not ripping off other movies. The problem: it rips off other movies far too often. TVB star Charmaine Sheh stars as Ceci, a beer girl who falls for restaurant empire heir S.K. To (Hacken Lee), whose name is supposed to be funny because it resembles SKII, one of Asia’s top cosmetics brands. That minor gag aside, S.K. lives beneath the iron rule of his overbearing mom (Bonnie Wong), who’s trying to get S.K. fixed up with Jade Rice (Liu Yang), a Mainland beauty who’s also an ace chef. When S.K. introduces Ceci as his chosen girlfriend, Mom retaliates by saying that her daughter-in-law must be a gourmet chef. Since Ceci simply can’t cook (her instant noodles are legendary for their lack of culinary quality), this condition presents a bit of a problem.

Fu Rai (2005)
怖来, 75 minutes. A horror/thriller about four people who wake up naked in a small room filled with white powder. Why are they there? Who brought them into the room? How do they escape?
Since this will almost certainly never see US release and there’s been zero interest in fansubbing it, I’ll give you some of those answers: they are kidnapped by an unknown restaurant whose specialty is serving human flesh. The white powder is probably flour (with perhaps some herbs and crumbs, as well), and let’s just say that the Japanese pronounce ‘fry’ (as in fried chicken) “fu-rai.” A tasty little horror film we’ll probably never see.<shugoblog>

Dog Bite Dog (2006)
Punishing and insanely intense, Dog Bite Dog is the perfect antidote for those who think Hong Kong Cinema is all dopey comedies starring Alex Fong Lik-Sun. It’s also a bit over the top, and so nihilistic that it repels instead of involves. But if this is your type of movie, then Dog Bite Dog won’t disappoint. <LoveHKFilm>

Auntie wants both Moon and Hyland to join her band of misfits because of Moon’s abilities and Hyland’s ability to dodge from other people’s attacks, i.e. superspeed.<Wiki>
EEG strikes again! Bug Me Not is easily the best film ever featuring the tag team of and CG-animated insects. It’s also the only one. Thanks to the ill-conceived script, Bug Me Not! is a chore from minute one. Not even the Twins can save this movie.<Review – lovehkfilm>
2002 (2001)
Nicholas Tse is Chiu, a somber cop who is the lone member of 2002, a special task force dealing with the paranormal. He’s also fated to kill anyone who’s close to him, as he was born under the Star of Death (cue Man Called Hero theme music). Chiu keeps to himself and avoids friends and lovers. When his current ghost partner Sam (Sam Lee in a cameo) gets on the reincarnation train, Chiu finds a new fated partner: Fung (Stephen Fung), a somewhat daffy cop who has the special ability to see the undead. Unfortunately, funeral salesperson Paper Chan (Law Kar-Ying) tells Chiu that Fung is fated to die soon, as 2002 must always consist of a man-ghost partnership. As the two become friends, Chiu finds himself increasingly distracted by their fates. Meanwhile, an evil Water Demon (Alex Fong Lik-Sun) arrives to make things difficult, taking over Fung’s body, forcing Chiu to kill both of them. And there’s romantic entanglements, too. Can Chiu get close to the girl he likes without killing her? and can he save Fung?

Ah Lok Cafe (2004)
Have you seen the latest Malaysian-made Ah Lok’s Cafe? There is nothing spectacular about this movie where Reggie Lee’s cartoon character is brought to life. It is about Ah Lok, played by Leonard Tan (who is by the way quite a good impersonator) who is an avid Elvis fan who owns a cafe. What intrigues me is the twist in the story where his younger daughter , Ai Ling, was diagnosed with a heart condition and could not foot the medical bill<DrCheah>

An Empress and the Warriors is dumb fun – with an emphasis on dumb. Directed by Ching Siu-Tung, Empress is an epic costume action-drama featuring an ill-supported storyline and a cast that requires a double take. Casting Donnie Yen as a badass warrior/officer is a no-brainer, and Leon Lai is at least imaginable as a tree-hugging doctor/lover. But Kelly Chen as a warrior princess? Imagining the ethereal Chen as a princess is easy – but when I say that, I’m thinking of one of those Disney heroines that talks to animals and acts sassy and spunky before getting swept off her feet by her knight in shining armor. Musical numbers would be a must. <lovehkfilm>

Kung Fu Dunk is a 2008 Taiwanese live-action film released in February 2008. The film is inspired by the Slam Dunk manga and anime series, and was previously titled Slam Dunk[1]. It was filmed in both Taiwan and Mainland China. The filming, however, conveyed a strong flavour of Hong Kong films, reminiscent of movies like Shaolin Soccer.
The film revolves around an orphaned boy who grew up in a kung fu university and becomes a talented basketball player.[2] The youngster, Fang Shi Jie (Jay Chou) grew up at the Kung-Fu School. He practiced excellent Kung-Fu and is equipped with good skills. When he is punished by his principal to stay on the streets for one night, he demonstrates his incredible accuracy to a down-and-out hustler, Wang Li. On the pretext of helping him search for his family, Wang Li invites him to play basketball at ‘First University’ as the new star of its basketball team. Meanwhile, Wang Li capitalizes on media interest in Shi-Jie to make money via interviews and news articles.<Wiki>

Ah Long Pte Ltd 《老师嫁老大》 is a light-hearted black comedy about the triad world and the money-lending business. Instead of treating the subject of Ah Longs (money-lenders) seriously, the movie takes on a humorous and sarcastic treatment. It depicts how a young lady tries to restructure her money-lending triad into a professional and ‘loving’ triad that stands against the use of violence after she takes over from her triad leader who has retired. Her various restructuring plans (which are no doubt very creative) bring about hilarious results.
